Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 29 and 40 — meaning you are overweight or obese.
  • You have extra belly fat or signs of metabolic syndrome (like high triglycerides, low good cholesterol, or high blood sugar).
  • You are not pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant during the study.
  • You do not have heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or a history of smoking.
  • You are not allergic to lidocaine, niacin, or indocyanine green.
  • You are willing to eat all meals provided by the study center for at least 3 days before the study.
