Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old and scheduled for bunion (hallux valgus) surgery on one foot.
  • You are in good general health (ASA class I, II, or III — meaning no serious illness or well-controlled illness).
  • You can walk on your own (with or without a cane or walker).
  • You are willing and able to do simple sensation tests (like feeling a pinprick or cold) at home after surgery.
  • You are not allergic to numbing medicines (like ropivacaine) or to common pain relievers like NSAIDs, paracetamol, or tramadol.
  • You have not taken strong painkillers (opioids) or gabapentin in the last 3 days, and you weigh at least 50 kg.
