- You are 18 years old or older.
- You are scheduled for an elective (not emergency) surgery below the knee, such as ankle surgery, fixing a broken bone in the lower leg, or toe surgery.
- You do not have a known allergy to numbing medicines like lidocaine or bupivacaine.
- You do not have a nerve condition that affects your lower legs (like neuropathy from diabetes).
- Your kidney and liver function are normal (no significant disease).
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You weigh at least 60 kg (about 132 lbs).
