Who can take part
- You have squamous cell carcinoma of the anus, confirmed by biopsy.
- Your cancer is locally advanced (stage T3 or T4, or has spread to nearby lymph nodes) but has not spread to other parts of the body.
- You are between 18 and 75 years old, or over 75 with a good health assessment.
- Your tumor is measurable on an MRI scan.
- You are healthy enough to receive both chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
- Your blood counts, kidney function, and liver function are within certain limits.
- You have not had pelvic radiation before.
- You do not have a complete or partial deficiency of the enzyme DPD (tested by blood uracil level).
- If you have HIV, your CD4 count is at least 400.
- You must be willing to use effective contraception if you or your partner could become pregnant.
