Who can take part
- You must be 18 years old or older.
- You must have anal cancer that is the squamous cell type and has not spread to other organs.
- Your tumor must be at least 4 cm in size, or it must be stage T3 or T4, or it must have spread to nearby lymph nodes.
- If you have perianal cancer caused by HPV (p16-positive), it must extend to the anal verge (the area where the anus meets the skin).
- You must be generally healthy (Karnofsky score greater than 60, creatinine clearance greater than 30 mL/min) and be a suitable candidate for the chemotherapy drugs used in this trial.
- You must be willing to use contraception if of reproductive potential, and you must not have had radiation to the pelvis before.
