Who can take part
- You are 65 or older, or between 45 and 64 and have had heart disease, a stroke, or blocked arteries in the past.
- You are having a planned (non-emergency) surgery that is not on your heart, brain, or carotid artery, and it will last at least 2 hours.
- You do not have severe uncontrolled high blood pressure (over 180/110) right now.
- You do not have serious conditions like sepsis, shock, acute heart failure, or kidney failure requiring dialysis.
- You are not pregnant.
- You are not on strong medications like dopamine or norepinephrine to keep your blood pressure up.
