Who can take part
- You are age 45 or older
- You are scheduled for major non-heart surgery expected to last at least 2 hours
- Your anesthesia plan includes general anesthesia and/or spinal/epidural anesthesia
- You are expected to stay at least one night in the hospital (ICU stay is allowed)
- Your surgical team plans direct blood pressure monitoring with an arterial line (artery catheter)
- You have at least one higher-risk factor (like age over 65, diabetes, prior stroke/heart disease, smoking, obesity, or certain heart/kidney blood tests)
