Who can take part
- You are between 65 and 90 years old.
- You are scheduled for a major surgery (not on the brain, heart, or blood vessels) that will last at least 2 hours and require at least 2 days in the hospital.
- You have at least one heart or blood vessel risk factor, such as a history of stroke, heart disease, heart failure, high blood pressure, diabetes, or smoking.
- You do not have severely uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe liver or kidney problems, or unstable heart conditions before surgery.
