Who can take part

  • You have rectal cancer that is locally advanced (spread nearby but not to distant organs).
  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • Your tumor is within 10 cm of the anal opening (measured by MRI).
  • You have not had any prior treatment for rectal cancer (surgery, chemo, radiation, etc.).
  • You are in good general health (able to perform daily activities, normal organ function).
  • You are willing to use effective birth control during and for 6 months after the study.
