Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old
  • You are right-handed and of Han Chinese ethnicity
  • If you have obesity: your BMI is over 28 and you are scheduled for your first bariatric surgery
  • If you are a healthy volunteer: your BMI is between 18.5 and 23.9
  • You can have an MRI scan (no metal implants, pacemaker, or claustrophobia)
  • You have no serious medical, mental health, or substance use issues
