- You are between 18 and 70 years old.
- You are a woman.
- You are scheduled to have one breast removed (mastectomy) with immediate reconstruction.
- You are not having lymph nodes under your arm removed (axillary dissection).
- Your body mass index (BMI) is 40 or less.
- You do not have severe liver or kidney disease.
- You do not have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners that cannot be safely stopped.
- You are not allergic to local anesthetics (like lidocaine).
- You are not pregnant.
