Nerve health monitor during ICU dialysis

Who can take part

  • You are in the ICU and receiving continuous kidney replacement therapy (a type of dialysis).
  • Extra fluid removal has been started due to fluid overload (swelling) or as part of a specific study, and you are not on strong blood pressure medications.
  • You have a regular heart rhythm (sinus rhythm) and no history of nerve damage affecting your heart rate (dysautonomia).
  • You are awake or only lightly sedated, and you have a central line (a special IV) in your upper chest area.
  • You are not on strong heart medications like inotropes, beta-blockers, or alpha-2 agonists, and you are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You are not on mechanical heart support, and you are not under legal guardianship or detained.
