Who can take part
- You must have been admitted to the hospital within the last 48 hours.
- You must have a new respiratory illness (like cough, chest pain, or trouble breathing) that started less than 14 days ago.
- You need a sign of infection, such as fever, chills, or an abnormal white blood cell count.
- You or your parent/guardian must agree to participate, and follow-up at 30 days (by phone or visit) must be possible.
- You cannot have been hospitalized in the last 28 days, had surgery in the past week, or need a breathing machine or strong heart medications.
