Abdominal electrical stimulation for bowel management in spinal cord injury

This trial tests if a special electrical stimulation (FES) on your belly can help make your bowel routine more predictable and shorter. You'll use electrodes on your skin 30 minutes before your usual bowel program.

Who can take part

  • Your spinal cord injury is at T11 or higher and happened more than a year ago.
  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You can tell a clear start and end to your bowel routine (like with enemas or digital stimulation).
  • You have a smartphone or tablet with a camera and can use Zoom.
  • Your bowel routine usually takes 30 minutes or longer.
  • You do not have a colostomy or stoma.
  • You are not pregnant, do not have a pacemaker, and have no recent belly surgery or severe obesity (BMI under 40).
  • You can speak English and have no active bowel disease (like Crohn's or diverticulitis).
