Active video game trial for arm strength in kids with SMA

Spinal Muscular Atrophy

Part of Brain & nervous system clinical trials.

This trial tests whether playing active video games (exergaming) with your arms can help children and teens with spinal muscular atrophy improve their arm strength and function. If you join, you'll play specially designed games for a period of time, and researchers will see if it makes a difference.

Who can take part

  • You must be 8 to 18 years old
  • A genetic test confirmed you have 5q spinal muscular atrophy (SMA)
  • You can sit without support for at least 10 seconds
  • You can lift one or both hands to your mouth, even if you can't lift a light object (like a 200g weight) to your mouth
  • You are currently taking a treatment for SMA
  • You can understand and read English or French
