This study tests whether being accompanied by an older adult helps improve recovery after anesthesia. You may be eligible if you are having planned surgery, staying in the hospital for 2 days or less, and are generally healthy.

Who can take part
- You are scheduled for a planned (elective) surgery and will stay in the hospital for 48 hours or less.
- You will be receiving general anesthesia (being completely asleep) – not just numbing or sedation.
- You are in good physical health (classified as ASA I or II) and have at least a high school education.
- You do not have a history of dementia, memory problems, or significant cognitive decline.
- You do not smoke or use recreational drugs, and your surgery is not expected to cause major blood loss (over 1000 mL).
- Your surgery is not on the hip or a long bone (like the thigh bone).
