Who can take part

  • You are 65 years or older.
  • You are scheduled for a noncardiac surgery expected to last 1 hour or more under general anesthesia.
  • You will need a patient-controlled pain pump (PCA) after surgery.
  • You are able to communicate and do not have severe dementia, coma, or a language barrier.
  • You do not have a history of schizophrenia, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, or myasthenia gravis.
  • You have not had a traumatic brain injury or brain surgery.
