- You are 16 or older
- You have been newly diagnosed with esophageal cancer, confirmed by a biopsy
- Your cancer is in the esophagus or where the esophagus meets the stomach
- Your cancer team thinks it might be curable with treatments like surgery, radiation, or endoscopy
- You have had a CT scan and a PET-CT scan to check how far the cancer has spread
- You are well enough to be up and around (performance status 0-2)
- Your cancer type is either adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma
