- You have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for less than 6 years
- Your most recent blood sugar test (HbA1c) is above 6.5%
- Your body mass index (BMI) is between 24 and 45
- You are not currently using insulin for diabetes
- You have not had a heart attack or stroke in the last 6 months
- You are not taking other weight loss medications or have lost more than 5 kg in the last 6 months
