Who can take part
- You are 18 or older
- You have squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus that could not be removed with surgery (stage I to IVa)
- You are able to do daily activities with little or no help (ECOG 0-1)
- You have completed a full course of radiation (50-60 Gy) for your esophageal cancer
- You received chemotherapy (platinum plus paclitaxel or a 5-FU-based two-drug regimen) with or without an immunotherapy drug (PD-1 inhibitor), or S-1 alone if you are older
- You have no other active cancer (except for certain early-stage cancers), no serious infection, no autoimmune disease, and you are not in another trial
