Who can take part

  • You have a type of esophageal cancer called squamous cell carcinoma that cannot be surgically removed or you choose not to have surgery.
  • Your cancer is at stage 2, 3, or 4 (but only if the spread is to lymph nodes, not distant organs).
  • You have not had any prior cancer treatment for this disease and are scheduled to receive chemoradiation.
  • You have already had a special genetic test (1021-gene panel) done on your tumor tissue.
  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You are in good general health, able to perform daily activities without help (ECOG score 0-1).
