- Diagnosed with sepsis and showing signs of low blood flow to organs (low blood pressure requiring medication, high lactate levels, low urine output, or poor circulation).
- Never received more than 1 liter of IV fluids in the last 6 hours.
- Not pregnant.
- No other causes for high lactate (like recent seizures, certain medications, or bowel problems).
- No end-stage kidney disease requiring dialysis, no hemorrhagic or obstructive shock, no severe heart failure, no low oxygen levels, no abdominal compartment syndrome, and no recent cardiac arrest.
