Blood infection test study for patients in the hospital

This study tests a new blood test (Microbio InfectID-BSI) to see how well it detects bacteria and yeast in patients with a possible bloodstream infection. If you are already having a blood culture done, the study will collect extra blood samples at the same time to compare the new test's results.

Who can take part

  • You are a newborn (less than 1 month), child (1 month to 17 years), or adult (18 years or older).
  • You are in the ICU, Emergency Department, or another hospital ward for an acute illness.
  • Your doctor has decided to test your blood for a possible bloodstream infection (blood culture).
  • You can have two extra blood samples taken from the same arm or line at the same time as the blood culture.
  • Each extra blood sample is at least 1 milliliter (mL) in volume.
  • The blood samples will be stored following the study's special handling rules.
