Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You have been diagnosed with sepsis or septic shock (severe infection with organ problems) or you are a generally healthy person willing to provide a blood sample.
- If you are in the patient group, you must give a blood sample before starting antibiotics.
- You do not have a chronic inflammatory disease like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.
- You do not have active cancer or take immune-suppressing medications.
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- If you are healthy, you have not had an infection in the last month or taken antibiotics in the last 6 weeks.
