Who can take part

  • You are in the intensive care unit (ICU) and at risk of becoming agitated or restless.
  • Your sedation level is not too deep (RASS score of -2 or higher – meaning you can be roused).
  • You are between 18 and 65 years old.
  • You do not have face or limb injuries, tumors, or surgery that change your facial expressions.
  • You do not have a nervous system or mental health condition, spinal cord injury, active cancer, or a contagious disease.
