Who can take part

  • You are in the intensive care unit (ICU) for a brain or nerve condition, such as after brain surgery, a stroke, or another neurological problem.
  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You or your legal guardian can sign a consent form.
  • You are not in a coma or deeply unconscious for the past week.
  • You do not have severe dementia, Parkinson's disease, or severe depression that affects your facial expressions.
  • You do not have any facial paralysis or major injury that would make it hard for a camera to read your face.
