  • You are between 13 and 40 years old
  • You are getting braces (fixed orthodontic treatment)
  • You need to have your first premolars removed as part of your braces plan
  • All your permanent teeth are in (except wisdom teeth and the teeth behind your molars)
  • You are willing to sign a consent form to join the study
  • You do not have any serious health conditions that affect tooth movement
  • You do not have uncontrolled gum disease or a craniofacial syndrome
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You do not have a nickel allergy
  • You are not taking medications that could slow tooth movement
