Who can take part

  • You have squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus that is locally advanced (stage II–IV) and cannot be removed by surgery, or you have refused surgery.
  • You have at least one tumor that can be measured on scans (CT or MRI).
  • You have not had any prior chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, or other cancer treatment for this condition.
  • You are in good general health (ECOG performance status 0 or 1), meaning you are fully active or limited only in strenuous activity.
  • Your kidney, liver, and blood counts meet specific thresholds (e.g., adequate neutrophil count, hemoglobin, and platelet levels).
