Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a lung lobectomy (removal of a lobe) using a keyhole technique called video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery.
  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18 and 30.
  • Your overall health is rated as ASA class I, II, or III (a standard measure of surgical risk).
  • You do not have severe heart or blood vessel problems, like a recent heart attack or severe arrhythmia.
  • You are not allergic to amide-type local anesthetics (like lidocaine or bupivacaine).
  • You have not taken certain pain medicines, steroids, or antidepressants in the last 3 days.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you are not currently in another clinical trial.
