Nerve block study for occipital pain or migraine

  • Age 18 to 80 years old
  • Diagnosis of occipital neuralgia or migraine with pain mainly at the back of the head
  • Heading pain at least 10 days per month
  • Oral medications (like NSAIDs, opioids, or seizure drugs) did not help enough (less than 50% pain reduction)
  • No previous radiofrequency treatment to the occipital nerve

Nerve block for stubborn migraines: Stellate vs occipital

This trial tests which nerve block works better for stubborn migraines: one on the stellate ganglion (a cluster of nerves in the neck) or the greater occipital nerve (at the back of the head). They will also check how these blocks affect a chemical linked to migraine pain. If you have chronic migraines that haven't improved with multiple treatments, you may be eligible.
