  • You are 75 years or older
  • You have a degenerative spine condition (like arthritis in the neck, mid-back, or low back) that causes severe nerve symptoms that haven't improved with other treatments
  • You are scheduled for spinal fusion surgery (where bones in the spine are joined together)
  • You can understand and answer simple questions (a short memory test will be done)
  • You are willing to follow the study plan and answer questionnaires before and after surgery
