Who can take part

  • Your child must be between 1 and 5 years old.
  • They must be scheduled for laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair surgery.
  • They should be generally healthy (or have only a mild health condition).
  • They cannot have any heart or lung disease, severe liver or kidney problems, or a history of a recent respiratory infection (within 2 weeks).
  • They must not be overweight (more than 20% above the standard weight for their age).
  • They cannot have a neuromuscular disease, a difficult airway, hiatal hernia, or gastroesophageal reflux disease.
