Who can take part

  • You are hospitalized for a COPD flare-up (worsening of symptoms).
  • Your flare-up has lasted at least 24 hours, but no more than 21 days.
  • You are between 40 and 80 years old.
  • You have smoked at least 10 pack-years (e.g., 1 pack a day for 10 years).
  • You have not taken antibiotics in the last 4 weeks.
