Who can take part

  • You are having surgery for a broken leg (thigh, shin, or ankle)
  • You could walk without help for at least 2 months before your fracture
  • You have not had a leg amputation
  • You do not have liver cirrhosis or advanced kidney failure (creatinine level under 1.4 mg/dL)
  • You do not have cancer that has spread, long-term inflammatory disease, or take certain bone medications
  • You have no allergy to naringenin (a citrus flavonoid)
