- Your baby is a newborn who needs an umbilical catheter as part of their care.
- Your baby is getting care in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
- The umbilical catheter is being placed for reasons like measuring blood pressure, frequent blood tests, or giving fluids for more than 2 days.
- Your baby was born before 28 weeks, needs extra oxygen (more than 40%), is being cooled for oxygen lack at birth, or has a severe infection.
