  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are scheduled for open abdominal surgery (not laparoscopic).
  • You have no known allergies or bad reactions to bupivacaine, dexmedetomidine, or dexamethasone.
  • You do not have an infection where the needle will go in (near the spine).
  • You do not have a history of chronic pain, psychological disorders, or serious liver or kidney disease.
  • You are willing and able to follow study instructions.
