- You have advanced gum disease (stage III or IV).
- You completed your first phase of gum treatment (scaling and root planing) at least 6 weeks ago.
- Less than 15% of your tooth surfaces have plaque (a sign of good brushing).
- Less than 15% of your gum areas bleed when checked (a sign of healthy gums).
- You have at least 2 natural teeth (not counting wisdom teeth) with pockets 6 mm or deeper.
