Who can take part

  • Diagnosed with severe Mediterranean anemia (thalassemia major)
  • Age 7–12 years old and weight under 40 kg
  • You either don't have a matched donor, or you have chosen not to have a standard stem cell transplant or gene therapy
  • You have a donor who is HLA mismatched (not fully matched) but passes medical checks
  • You and your family agree to try this experimental transplant and sign a consent form
  • You do not have a mental health condition that would prevent participation
