Who can take part
- You are 65 to 80 years old and currently in the hospital for pneumonia.
- Your pneumonia started within the last 3 days (72 hours).
- You must have at least two of these symptoms: cough, coughing up phlegm, shortness of breath, or chest pain when breathing.
- Your pneumonia fits a specific pattern in Chinese medicine called 'Phlegm-Heat Obstructing the Lungs' (a doctor will assess this).
- You cannot have other serious lung conditions like COPD, asthma, lung cancer, or active tuberculosis.
- You must be able to give your own consent and not have severe heart, liver, or kidney disease, or be on a breathing machine.
