Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18 and 30.
  • You are having planned (elective) surgery that will last less than 2 hours, and you will be lying on your back.
  • You will receive general anesthesia with a laryngeal mask airway (a tube placed in your throat to help you breathe).
  • You have no known problems with your face or airway, no teeth that are loose, no acid reflux, and no current cold or respiratory infection.
  • You do not smoke or use betel nuts.
