Who can take part
- You are a veteran patient at the Dayton VA Medical Center dermatology clinic.
- Your skin is fair (Fitzpatrick type I or II) — it burns easily and doesn't tan much.
- You have a doctor's order to receive photodynamic therapy (PDT) on your forearms.
- You are not currently taking certain antidepressants (tricyclics or SSRIs).
- You do not have porphyria, large tattoos in the treatment area, or active rashes there.
- You are not pregnant or nursing, and you can avoid sun exposure to treated areas.
