- You are in the intensive care unit (ICU) because of a serious pneumonia infection.
- Your pneumonia was caught in the hospital or is linked to a ventilator, or you have a community-acquired type that may be resistant to multiple drugs.
- You do not have a life-threatening heart rhythm problem, recent stroke, heart attack, shock, severe stomach bleeding, drug overdose, or advanced cancer with a life expectancy under 1 year.
