Milk vs wheat protein for building muscle in older adults

This trial compares two types of protein, one from milk and one from wheat, to see which helps older adults build more protein in their body. You will receive drinks containing one protein type on separate days and have blood and muscle samples taken.

Who can take part

  • Age between 65 and 85 years
  • Body mass index (BMI) between 18.5 and 30 (healthy weight range)
  • Generally healthy and active (no more than one intense workout per week)
  • No physical problems that limit daily activities
  • Not smoking
  • No major muscle or bone conditions
  • Not taking certain medications for inflammation, stomach acid, or blood thinning
  • Stable weight for the last 3 months
  • No known stomach or gut disorders
  • No blood donation in the past 2 months
