Better sleep intervention to prevent obesity in kids

This trial tests a brief sleep program for children ages 6 to 11 who sleep less than 9 hours a night. The goal is to see if improving sleep can help prevent unhealthy weight gain. Eligible families will be randomly assigned to the sleep program or to a comparison group.

Who can take part

  • Your child is between 6 and 11 years old
  • Your child usually sleeps less than 9 hours a night (including time in bed)
  • Your child's weight is above underweight but below the obesity range for their age and sex
  • You are the child's primary caregiver and are at least 18 years old
  • Your child does not have a diagnosed sleep disorder
  • Your child is not currently taking medication or being treated for a condition that affects sleep or weight
  • Your child is not currently in a weight control program
