Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older and in generally good health (ASA 1-3).
  • You are scheduled for elective (non-emergency) surgery.
  • You do not have any stomach, esophagus, or upper abdomen problems or prior surgery in those areas.
  • You are not taking medications that slow down stomach emptying (like certain pain or allergy meds).
  • You are under 65 years old, not pregnant, and do not have Type 1 diabetes or take certain diabetes medications.
