Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with rectal cancer that has spread into or beyond the muscle layer (stage T3b or higher) or has other high-risk features such as lymph node involvement.
  • You are scheduled to receive high-dose radiotherapy aimed at curing the cancer.
  • You are 18 years or older and able to give informed consent.
  • You do not have metal implants or other reasons that make MRI unsafe (like claustrophobia or a pacemaker).
  • You have not had any pelvic radiotherapy before, do not have inflammatory bowel disease, and have not had major surgery in the past month.
