Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery where you will be tilted head-down (Trendelenburg position).
  • You will have an arterial line (a small tube in an artery) for monitoring blood pressure as part of your regular care.
  • You do not have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, a long-term lung condition).
  • You do not have pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lungs).
  • You do not have an active infection affecting your whole body.
