Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are having planned coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery that uses a heart-lung machine (CPB) for 120 minutes or less.
  • You will be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after surgery.
  • You will have an arterial line and a central venous catheter placed as part of your care.
  • You do not have kidney or liver disease before surgery.
  • You are not pregnant.
  • You do not have a chronic lung disease like COPD, and your BMI is less than 40.
