Who can take part

  • You are having major surgery that will last more than 2 hours.
  • You will be under general anesthesia with a breathing tube.
  • You will stay in the hospital for at least 48 hours after surgery.
  • You can understand and agree to the study's rules.
  • You do not have a pacemaker, defibrillator, or sleep apnea.
  • You are not taking strong painkillers daily or have chronic pain.
