Who can take part

  • You are between 40 and 84 years old.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18 and 32.
  • You have completed a pulmonary rehab program in the last year.
  • You have moderate to severe shortness of breath (mMRC score of 2 or higher).
  • You can walk at least 100 meters in 6 minutes.
  • Your lung function tests show severe air trapping and moderate to severe COPD (FEV1 15-45% predicted, RV/TLC ≥ 0.55), and a CT scan shows significant emphysema in both lungs.
  • You must have stopped smoking (including vaping, marijuana) for at least 4 months and agree not to smoke during the study.
  • You are up to date on recommended vaccines (pneumonia, flu, RSV if over 60, and COVID-19) or have a medical reason not to get them.
